William Gibson's Idoru? has anyone read it?

has anyone read this novel because i read it for an English ignment and i'm a little confused as to what exactly happened in the novel. like why did Chia need to physically go to Japan if she just needed to visit someone in cyber-world. why was laney hired by blackwell what was he suppossed to be doing at this company. what was the nanotech thing and why did the russians want it, and also why did Rez and Rei Toi want it. this novel seemed like a whole bunch of pointless things happened just so he could make a pointless novel, i mean if you think about it what really happened? everything pretty much went back to normal didnt it? i dont know, this novel confused me and if anyone has read it can you please help, i've tried to find full summaries online but there are none. tia!
